ADCO has an advisory role in the University of Vienna’s research initiative into the prehistory of the Upper Austrian lakes. The Institute for Archaeological Science at the University of Vienna, in partnership with the Ludwig Bolzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and Virtual Archaeology, and the County of Lower Austria, Department of Culture as part of the UNESCO- World Heritage site of prehistoric pile dwellings in the Alps, are collaborating in a project that will use advanced underwater remote sensing techniques to enhance insight to the Lake Village phenomenon in Upper Austria.
A principal aim is to produce a new vision of the underwater cultural heritage of the Upper Austrian pre-Alpine lakes of Austria ahead of the planned 2020 Landesaustellung on that theme. A further aim is to develop technologies suitable for prospecting underwater archaeological sites of all periods and develop world-leading expertise and capacity in Upper Austria.
As part of the Advisory Board, ADCO’s remit is to provide oversight and expertise that can inform the decisions of the executive board in the procurement, adaption, deployment and use of the technology in theory and practice.
